When To Schedule Your Engagements

Often I get asked ‘When should we schedule our engagement session?’. Well, there are plenty of options, but it really depends on what you are going to use the photos for. There is always excitement about getting to say ‘yes’, showing off that new bling, and preparing to start your lives together. Although initial planning of a wedding might seem a little daunting, here is a good roadmap to scheduling your photography sessions.

Formal Invitations

Ideally, a photographer will recommend 6 months out to guarantee delivery and allow time for printing and mailing on your end. This timeframe is best for using your photos on your formal invitations and any needed for the day of to show off. I deliver galleries back to you within 3 weeks!

Save the dates

I personally like to schedule in engagements around 8 months out. Not only is it awesome to hang out with you both and get to know you, you’ll receive your images back in plenty of time to send out save the dates and also your formal invitations. Bring two outfits to add variety in your session!

Just for fun

Already get photos taken? or not interested in a traditional session? That is totally okay. I love scheduling sessions that are closer to the wedding date within 1-2 months. Just spending time with each other in a more intimate and romantic way is a great idea for photos that you can cherish forever. Often I recommend sessions the few days before your wedding to really and enjoy the anticipation of forever together.
